Elegant, beautiful and with a heavenly smell, a rose is truly the ‘Queen of Flowers’.
To get your rose fix, visit the Adelaide Botanic Garden’s International Rose Garden, which is home to thousands of varieties from all around Australia and the world. The garden displays over 2,500 roses, including areas devoted to Australian-bred roses, single roses, heritage roses and pillar roses. No matter if you have a big garden – or just a large pot – it’s just the place to get some inspiration and information about which roses you may want to plant.
Another fascinating area is the National Rose Trial Garden, where different varieties from overseas and Australia are put to the test. The garden is the first of its kind in the country and is a joint venture between the Botanic Gardens of South Australia, the National Rose Society of Australia and the rose industry.
In 2021, Adelaide will be hosting the World Rose Convention, where rose lovers from all around the world will gather for a public expo. Already rosarians are getting excited, and getting their garden beds prepared, so the city will be in glorious bloom for the event.
To learn more, the Rose Society of South Australia has a fantastic website full of information about rose care – and you can even contact experts who are more than happy to have a chat and share their knowledge.
