Ceduna celebrates Oysterfest 2019

Ceduna Oysterfest

Posted by SA Weekender on Wednesday, 28 August 2019

Callum and his mate Themis head to the Far West Coast to Oysterfest in Ceduna. Ceduna and nearby Smoky Bay produce almost half of South Australia’s oysters – over 6 million a year!

Oysterfest is an annual event that celebrates the industry and the wonders of this marvellous mollusk. There are carnival rides, cooking demos, food and wine masterclasses, even aerial displays – but what people really go there for is to indulge in oysters – lots of oysters. Natural or baked in a myriad of ways; you can eat them straight from the shell and slurp up the juice.

Out of everything on offer at Oysterfest, perhaps the most thrills and spills can be seen at the oyster shucking competition. You won’t believe how fast the teams can open and eat a dozen.

Celebrated every South Australia Labour Day Long Weekend, a trip to Oysterfest is a fantastic reason to take in the sights of this fascinating part of SA.

Oysterfest will take place over three days from Friday the 4th to Sunday the 6th of October 2019. For more information head to the Ceduna Council website – it’s an absolute pearl of an event!
