The Fleurieu Peninsula has such a rich and diverse offering of produce, it’s hard to know where to start! However Rojina McDonald, or Reggie to her friends, has self-published a stunning book called Faces and Food of the Fleurieu that will tell you everything you need to know.
Eighty prominent food producers and chefs between Port Noarlunga and Cape Jervis share their stories, tips, and most importantly – recipes.
Among them are McCarthy’s Orchard, Coorong Wild Seafood, Bombora Cafe at Goolwa Beach, Alexandrina Cheese, the Victory Hotel at Sellicks Beach, Willunga Farmers’ Market, the Salopian Inn, and Ellen Street Restaurant at Maxwell Wines.
The book also features glorious images by local photographer Josie Withers.
Rojina’s interest in food and wine started when she was growing up on her family’s olive grove in McLaren Vale. She wanted to tell the stories of the farmers, fishermen, winemakers and chefs who are her neighbours.
Faces and Food of the Fleurieu can be found in bookstores or ordered online from Soul Publishing. But that’s not the end of Rojina’s quest to champion the region, as she’s already working on a second book: Wine, Beer and Spirits of the Fleurieu.
