Kangaroo Island is rich in spectacular scenery and awesome adventures – and after all that fresh air and fun, you’re going to need refreshment!
That’s where the Kangaroo Island Brewery comes in — a rustic, welcoming brewhouse just out of Kingscote — where you can kick back, relax and sample handcrafted brews with authentic Island flavour.
Mike Holden was a builder by trade… now, he builds beers. And why on earth wouldn’t you? But should you pay a visit to his brewhouse, you’ll see plenty of evidence of his former life – the character-packed premises are “re-purposed rustic”, full of beautiful timber and old farming implements that Mike has rescued from the rust heap. And that dedication to the island ethos extends to the brewing, too.
A great way to try the beers is with a tasting paddle, where you can try four brews — just half their range — which are brewed according to the season.
And you can get takeaway (and re-fills) in wonderful 1 and 2-litre bottles, delightfully named “squealers” and “growlers”. Recently expanded off-site production means cans are available, too.
Kangaroo Island Brewery is just a couple of minutes out from Kingscote on the North Coast Road, and opens from Friday through to Sunday. Hop onto the website or Facebook page to find out about hours and special events.
