The Holmes family has been in the business for nearly 30 years and raise their produce using the ‘rack and rail system’. Divided into mesh baskets according to their size – the oysters are exposed when the tide is low – which actually trains them to become stronger and more water-tight. Then when the tide’s high – they feed on micro-nutrients from the water.
Colleen and Jeff used to be land farmers, but during the recession in the late 80’s – reinvented themselves when the industry first began in the area. Knowing it took hard work and constant care to raise healthy livestock – they transferred their skills to raising healthy shellfish.
