Adventures on a P&O Cruise from Adelaide

With the cruise market growing in popularity for Australians, we take a trip with P&O on a three-day, four-night holiday that packs in the fun, food and adventure into an easy Adelaide return trip! The Southern Getaway cruise departs Outer Harbour late afternoon, arriving at first light in Port Lincoln; the following day is spent at sea; then it’s on to Kangaroo Island before heading back to Adelaide. The trip is short but definitely sweet – many of the 1,200 or so passengers on board are South Australians, looking to maximize a quick break with minimum effort.

Port Lincoln offers passengers a cheery welcome and a chance to see much more of Eyre Peninsula. Some passengers opt for a simple wander around town, but we chose an excursion – on board another boat! Down at the marina, we joined Adventure Bay Charters to learn more about the local seafood industry. We headed out into the bay to look at some tuna pens and mussel leases and sampled a taste of the local catch.

After an action-packed day at sea, day 3 saw us anchoring off Kangaroo Island for another chance to hop off for some optional day-tripping.

Penneshaw requires disembarkation by tender – before we split up into groups to take in some of the islands renowned sights. We visited Kangaroo Island Outdoor Action to join in on a tour with true grit! Quad bikes are a heap of fun with a chance to see KI’s wildlife up close. If you’re lucky, you may spot echidnas, goannas, koalas or a wedge-tailed eagle, but frankly, just being on the bike is an adventure and something the whole family can do!
