Every Saturday morning, the Brighton and Seacliff Yacht Club is a hive of activity as kids and adults learn to sail. The youngest group is the ‘Tackers’ – 7 to 12 year olds, who are taught the basics in a fun, safe way.
Kids up to age 15 transition into Optimist dinghy’s fondly known as ‘Opties’. Stable, with a light boom, they are what many Olympians have learnt to race on.
Now if you think only the kids get to enjoy the fun – that’s not true because there are classes for adults too. A great way to get your feet wet is to take part in an introductory weekend. You’ll find many participants only have basic skills or have never sailed before.
Sailing is a skill you can enjoy for life and there are many clubs along the coast of SA that would love to introduce you to its joys.
